Services

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy sessions help children practice challenging speech sounds through fun, game-based activities. Karen takes a myofunctional approach to speech sound remediation as most articulation errors are secondary to an oral musculature imbalance. Frequency of visits and duration is discussed and individualized to meet each individual’s needs.

Myofunctional Therapy

Oromyofunctional therapy addresses the neuromuscular re-education or re-patterning of the oral and facial muscles in order to promote proper tongue position, improve breathing, chewing, and swallowing. Karen has been practicing myofunctional therapy since 2015.

Infant Feeding/Oral Motor

Infant feeding therapy improves feeding skills for both breastfed and bottle-fed babies, addressing issues like latch problems, milk supply concerns, reflux, and oral motor challenges. Karen provides personalized care, specializing in tethered oral tissues and using a team-based approach for effective treatment.

"Karen is an incredible SLP and Myofunctional Therapist! Throughout the time we have worked together, I sent countless babies to her that looked as though they may have oral ties/restrictions. Karen worked wonders on these babies, helping their parents understand where their oral function was going wrong and taught them the exercises to improve things. If the babies still needed a release of oral restrictions Karen guided the parents through this process and helped them have the most effective healing that got them to their goals. I was so bummed when Karen closed her practice in Chicago but thrilled to hear that she gets to bless another area and many more families with her knowledge."

What clients have said about Karen...

My 2.5 year old daughter’s speech has improved so much since working with Karen. Karen’s cranio-facial expertise allowed her to identify and treat more root causes of the speech delays, like jaw muscle weakness. Karen also helped us connect with other
specialists to help with other issues for more comprehensive treatment. She even reached out to those providers to coordinate treatment (with my permission). She uses objective measures to assess progress, which she shares frequently, so I know my daughter is improving. Highly recommend!

-Anne, Parent of a HSW client

As the grandmother of a toddler, it has truly been amazing to watch her speech develop. To her it’s fun, not work which speaks volumes as to the comfort level Karen provides.

-Ginny, Grandmother of a HSW client

Karen was absolutely amazing with my son. He was diagnosed with a tongue and lip tie at 4 months. Despite having the surgery for it, he was still struggling with swallowing, etc. We were recommended to Karen. When we first met her, I was so impressed with her knowledge. She went right to work on desensitizing his palate. Before working with her, he was exclusively breastfed and refused the bottle.

With her help, we were able to get him to accept the bottle in time for me to return to work. We were also able to start transitioning him to some solids as he grew. She was so patient with him— despite us not even knowing he was on the spectrum. He was a tough cookie at times but Karen was able to work her magic with him. We couldn’t be more thankful for all her hard work with our son. He is absolutely thriving now as a rambunctious 3 year old.

-Leanne, Parent of a HSW client

"Karen is an extremely talented and experienced speech therapist. She has an extensive understanding of oral motor mechanics and the important relationship between oral function and the whole body. She provides comprehensive treatment and is an asset for both children and their parents."
